YAMAHA BUILDS A GLOBAL LOGISTICS INTELLIGENCE PLATFORM WITH DOMO.

A chance request by a local elementary school to fix its broken reed organ inspired Torakusu Yamaha to pioneer the design and production of Western musical instruments in Japan. Nearly 140 years later, Yamaha is now a global manufacturer of musical instruments and audio equipment that generates billions of dollars in sales each year.

The company’s dedication to precision extends to how it manages the complex logistics network it uses to support customers worldwide. With Domo, Yamaha has the unified view of its international supply chain that it needs to reduce risk, make better decisions faster, and improve its resiliency.

“Domo is already being used across Yamaha in information systems, marketing, sales, and production,” said Masahito Nakagawa, general manager of Yamaha’s Logistics Division. “The data utilized by the Logistics Division accelerates the optimization of our global supply chain, encompassing procurement, production, and sales.”

Reducing logistics risk

Yamaha originally adopted Domo as a critical tool for collecting siloed data and improving decision-making. Once it was implemented, its Logistics Division quickly identified an opportunity to modernize how it collects, standardizes, and uses logistics data across the organization. Thanks to Domo’s no-code data preparation and visualization capabilities, its logistics team was able to independently build and scale its analytics capabilities without requiring any dedicated IT engineering resources, significantly reducing its time to deployment.

The Logistics Division used Domo to build a centralized logistics intelligence platform that provides the company with a unified view of customs duties, shipping costs, inventory levels, and warehousing fees. By automating manual reporting processes and standardizing data, Yamaha significantly improved its data quality and reliability while saving more than 16 hours per month in reporting time.

Yamaha’s logistics team now uses Domo to make faster, more accurate decisions for reducing the company’s supply chain risks and costs. With its products shipped around the globe, Yamaha can quickly access centralized maritime data to track shipments and reroute them as needed to avoid geopolitical conflicts, natural disasters, or tariff changes. Instead of reacting to disruption, Yamaha can now identify potential issues earlier and coordinate its response across its logistics, sales, procurement, and production departments.

Increasing global visibility

Yamaha used Domo to unlock complete visibility into its inventory levels across all its warehouses around the globe. With this insight, Yamaha can now identify and mitigate sudden fluctuations and storage constraints that previously created bottlenecks and delays in fulfilling orders. The company can also share inbound and outbound forecasts with its warehouse partners to anticipate space requirements months in advance while also responding with more flexibility when unexpected orders come in.

Similarly, Yamaha uses Domo to analyze its ship container utilization by comparing actual cargo volume against maximum capacity. By bringing carrier data, port activity, freight rates, and transit times together in one dashboard, its logistics team can now quantify its true shipping efficiency and identify new opportunities to improve utilization and reduce costs.

In addition, Yamaha can easily visualize the performance of its logistics partners on a single dashboard. This allows the logistics team to closely monitor key performance metrics so they can benchmark their supply chain network, identify trends like delays and cost overruns, and improve partner accountability.

“Yamaha is a great example of what happens when data moves out of silos and into the flow of real operations,” said Josh James, founder and CEO of Domo. “They are not just visualizing logistics data. They are using it to detect risk earlier, make better decisions faster, and run a more resilient global supply chain.”

*This customer story is based on an interview conducted in October 2025. Please note that organizational structures mentioned may have changed since that time, including the dissolution of the Logistics Division in April 2026.
