SCHNUCKS BRINGS INSIGHT TO ITS GROCERY STORE AISLES WITH DOMO.
As a regional grocer, Schnucks believes in nourishing lives by building deep roots in every community it serves. With Domo, Schnucks puts data at the heart of every decision, so shelves stay stocked and customers receive the best experience possible.
“We no longer ask simple questions like, ‘What were my sales yesterday?’ We’ve now moved on to, ‘These were my sales yesterday. What do I need to do about it in the future, and how do I make it even better for my customers?’” said Colin Lloyd, director of business analytics at Schnucks.

One of the leading regional grocery chains in the Midwest, St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets, Inc. (Schnucks) is a family-owned supermarket retailer that operates more than 100 stores across Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
“We use Domo as our enterprise reporting tool.My vision for Domo is that when you start your day, you get out of bed and login to see exactly where you need to be for the day and what you need to focus on as your key metrics.”

From silos to insights
Before Domo, Schnucks struggled to collect data from its different departments, stores, warehouses, and vendors. Reports were fragmented and produced manually using spreadsheets or printed files. Without a centralized system for measuring performance, company leaders were often misaligned or struggled with conflicting interpretations of the data.
“At Schnucks, we have tons of data, often more than we know what to do with. It’s a challenge when you have all that content and don’t have the tools at your fingertips to make something happen with it,” said Lesiene Brecount, business intelligence lead at Schnucks. “We needed something that could ingest that data and provide it to our teams in a way they can actually consume.”
With Domo, data-driven insights are now embedded throughout the enterprise. Departments including HR, finance, marketing, operations, and merchandising use Domo to track performance, support decisions, and deliver real-time data wherever it’s needed. Domo provides store teams with daily KPIs they can use to guide staffing, production, and service decisions, while corporate executives at the company’s headquarters use Domo to track strategic progress throughout its 114 stores across four states.
“We use Domo as our enterprise reporting tool. My vision for Domo is that when you start your day, you get out of bed and log in to see exactly where you need to be for the day and what you need to focus on as your key metrics,” Lloyd said. “The way I view Domo is it’s the tortilla, and data is the filling. Domo helps you package all of your data into something that is nourishing and even delicious.”

Real-time performance tracking
Schnucks uses Domo to keep its finger on the pulse of its overall business, each store, and each department within that store. Everyone from the C-suite to store and department managers uses Domo to access and monitor real-time performance metrics that they can use to make decisions from behind the counter or in the store aisle.
“Our primary use case is operations. This can mean executives driving strategy, or store teammates wondering how the deli counter is doing, or how our supply chain is performing,” Brecount said. “The more we have Domo, the more everyone wants to use it. Once one teammate learns it, another teammate shares that knowledge, and it spreads. The more tools we add, the more people want to see them. If there’s not a team using it yet, adding Domo is definitely on their to-do list.”
At the executive level, Schnucks relies on Domo for strategic alignment. Using Domo’s App Studio, the business intelligence team built a visually rich, interactive dashboard that tracks progress across the company’s KPIs. The dashboard consolidates real-time updates from multiple teams into one unified view, helping leadership stay proactive rather than reactive.
To drive revenue, the marketing and merchandising teams use Domo to track the effectiveness of its promotions, allowing them to see whether or not products are flying off the shelves. Sales data automatically flows into Domo, helping their teams gauge promotion performance within minutes of launch.
“As soon as we put that product on promotion, we’re ready to measure 15 minutes later,” Lloyd said.
With Domo as its foundation, Schnucks is preparing to bring AI-powered insights to the front lines of customer service and operations. “I feel like we’re right at the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Domo.AI will allow us to continue to empower our teammates with even more actionable information,” Lloyd said.
