How Food Manufacturers Use Data to Drive Results | Domo

Food manufacturing runs on razor-thin margins and enormous complexity. Live supply chains (involving animals, crops, perishables), dozens of facilities, fleets of trucks, and production lines that can't afford downtime. Spoilage, delivery delays, and production inefficiencies cost real money. When you're processing millions of supplies or shipping frozen dough across the country, even a small blind spot in your data can cascade into serious losses.

And yet, many food manufacturers still rely on spreadsheets and manual reporting that's days or weeks behind. Sales teams wait a full month for numbers that are riddled with conversion errors. Process managers spend hours building pivot tables in Excel just to answer a basic question. When something goes wrong on the production line, it can take weeks to notice, let alone fix.

That's where Domo comes in. Three food companies, Lusiaves, Pasarnow, and Rhodes Bake-N-Serv, are proving that when you connect your data in one place, you can move faster, waste less, and make smarter decisions across every part of the supply chain. Here's how three leaders are doing it.

Lusiaves: Managing a farm-to-table empire with a single source of truth

Lusiaves Group is the leading poultry producer across the Iberian Peninsula, processing more than 100 million eggs, chicks, and chickens per year. With 5,000 employees, over 40 business units, and roughly 400 million euros in annual revenue, this is a vertically integrated operation that spans grain production, feed processing, poultry farms, slaughterhouses, food packaging, and logistics.

Challenge: With dozens of legacy systems spread across the business, Lusiaves struggled to pull data together into anything usable. In the sales department alone, one to two people spent an entire month preparing the previous month's numbers, and the data was often full of errors from converting between kilos and units. Paulo Gaspar, previously the CIO, described the situation bluntly: they were "in the stone age" of data.

Solution: Domo became the all-in-one solution for data warehousing, governance, integration, reporting, analytics, and visualizations. It auto-collects and certifies data from every business unit. Personalized data permissions mean managers see only the data relevant to their role, while directors get the full picture. Sales reps receive their KPIs by email every morning. The platform tracks everything from chicken growth rates and truck maintenance schedules to production line efficiency and solar power output.

Impact: Lusiaves quickly gained 500 Domo users across more than 40 business units, supported by just two BI analysts. Sales reporting went from a month-long manual process to daily automated KPI emails. Production teams could access mortality rates, reject rates, and animal well-being monitoring in real time. In a specific example, logistics managers were able to anticipate a fuel shortage during a truck driver strike, ramp up storage capacity, and keep deliveries running while competitors stopped. Paulo summarized our partnership this way: "Every single part of our supply chain is in Domo. Whatever question we can think about, I am sure we can answer it [in Domo]."

Pasarnow: Cutting food waste from 10 percent to 1 percent with data

Pasarnow is an Indonesian food supply chain startup connecting farmers and brand principals with business customers. Its mission centers on helping rural farmers reach buyers in Jakarta, bridging the gap between farm-level production and urban demand.

Challenge: As a lean startup, Pasarnow needed a data tool that was easy to integrate without a heavy IT footprint. The company was fighting significant food waste (45 million tons) in the region while facing inefficient logistics and limited visibility into customer buying patterns and payment behaviors.

Solution: Pasarnow integrated Domo in just two days. Domo now powers insights across sales, logistics, and finance, from restaurant ordering patterns and delivery route optimization to accounts receivable management.

Impact: Food waste dropped from 10 percent to 1 percent. Delivery cost per order decreased by roughly 20 percent through route consolidation. Meanwhile, the sales team gained the ability to identify lapsed restaurant customers and re-engage them via WhatsApp and email, and the finance team was able to cluster customers by payment history to set appropriate payment terms.

Rhodes Bake-N-Serv: Monitoring every batch of America's favorite frozen dough

Rhodes Bake-N-Serv has been a leader in frozen bread and rolls since 1958, producing dinner rolls, sweet rolls, bread, biscuits, and pizza dough for consumers across the US.

Challenge: Production data lived in spreadsheets that lagged a full week behind, and problems on the line could take up to a month to discover. Process managers spent hours manually building pivot tables and charts in Excel just to track basic metrics.

Solution: With Domo, Rhodes can load unlimited data points and see them reflected in dashboards within 20 minutes. Those dashboards are displayed on monitors throughout the corporate office, giving the team constant visibility into customer service and production metrics.

Impact: Problem detection time went from one month to two seconds. The team saved 15 hours per month previously spent building spreadsheets. Customer service tracking start happening in real time, allowing the team to spot trends and respond faster. As Ty Tolman, process improvement manager, put it, "With Domo, we can monitor every single batch we produce."

The data advantage in food manufacturing

Whether you're managing poultry farms across the Iberian Peninsula, reducing food waste in Indonesia, or monitoring frozen dough production in the US, the pattern is the same: when your data is connected and accessible, you catch problems faster, waste less, and give your teams the visibility they need to act.

If you're ready to see what connected data can do for your food manufacturing operations, learn how Domo supports manufacturing companies.
