Dirk J. Derrick's journey from a tobacco farm in Conway, South Carolina, to founding a successful law firm reflects his lifelong dedication to hard work and excellence. Working as a farmhand from age six on his grandfather's farm and guided by his father, a teacher and football coach, Dirk developed the strong work ethic that would define his career. After earning a football scholarship to Wofford College, where he graduated with an economics degree, Dirk briefly coached football at East Tennessee State University. There, he met his wife, Michelle. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1987 and began practicing in Horry County, eventually founding Derrick Law Firm Injury Lawyers in 1991. A transformative focus group experience in 2015 led Dirk to revolutionize his approach to personal injury law. He developed a unique business model centered on leveraging data through in-house courtrooms and focus groups. Today, his firm operates from 10 South Carolina locations, employing 27 attorneys and over 60 staff members. His groundbreaking work includes analyzing data from over 20,000 South Carolinians and more than 5000 juror deliberations and opinions, culminating in a proprietary database that helps plaintiff attorneys nationwide. He shares his expertise through 'The Appraisers Podcast,' a platform for plaintiff lawyers. Active in his community, Dirk serves as a founding member and elder of The Rock, Conway's Community Church, and has supported the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for over 45 years. In 2019, he established the 'Get Seen, Get Paid' Athletic Camp Scholarship to help student-athletes pursue higher education through sports.
